Jenny Marketou  is internationally  recognized for her photographs, video installations, public events, projects and performances, interactive telecommunication environments and internet installations . Marketou's pieces which often link virtual and physical spaces, propose alternative ways of understanding the role of communication phenomena in creating shared realities and investigating the philosophical and political dimensions of the communication process and confronts issues concerning identity, agency, surveillance,  open source systems.  

Most recently Jenny Marketou's new internet installation project www.taystes.net is premiered during the <CTRL Spaces> 2001 exhibition about surveillance, ZKM, Karlsruhe, Germany and ROOT 2001, International Festival of Live Art and New Media , Hull, UK.  

SMELL.BYTES TM,was first shown at the Sao Paulo Biennial, Brazil,1998  as the Greek representation. Since then it has been shown in many venues including:   MEDIARAMA Festival , 2001, Sevilla Centro Andaluz de Arte Contemporáneo, Sevilla, Spain ; The National Museum of Contemporary Art, Athens, Greece, in  SYNOPSIS 1,COMMUNICATIONS, 2000 to 2001 ;  TRIBES Gallery ,New York (DYSTOPIA 2000); The Swiss Institute,New York (TENACITY 2000);  Cal Arts and Moca,  LA, (NET>NET>NET 2000);  ZKM Karlsruhe, Germany, 1999-2001 (NET_CONDITION);  The Queens Museum of Art, New  York,1999 -2000 (Modern Odysseys, Greek -American Artists of the 20th Century); The Center for Contemporary Art, Thessaloniki,Greece, 1999 -2000; The Kitchen,Rhizome, New York ; INVENCAO,1999, Sao Paulo;  Carnegie Center For the Arts,1998 Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania ; the Viper 1999 Film and New Media Festival, Lucerne, Switzerland.

Her global project  TRANSLOCAL: CAMP IN MY TENT, 1996 to 2001  was recently presented at "Hybrid Dwellings" 2001,  Arsenal Gallery Bialystok, Poland and in  "Borderhack 2001"  DE-LETE the boarder , Tijuana, Mexico; The Nicosia Municipal Art Center, Nicosia, Cyprus, 2000 -2001 in the exhibition, MOVING IMAGES, as well as at Witte de With, Rotterdam,1996 (MANIFESTA 1) and  ART & IDEA , Mexico City,1997;  Anadiel Gallery,Old City Jerusalem,Israel,1997 among others.  

@Electric Eve 1996, was commissioned by the Southeast Museum of Photography Florida, was shown in "Women and the Art of Multimedia," at the National Museum of Women in the Arts, Washington, DC (1997) and "Technoseduction" 1997, The Cooper Union Public Library, New York, New York.  

Marketou's  video installations have been shown  at  "Beyond Origin" 2001 Video Art show , Athens,Greece ; " Interferences: Nuits Savoureuses",  Video and New Media Festival,2000, Belfort, France ;Wide World Video Festival,1999 Amsterdam , the International Video Program, International Women's University, Berlin, Germany,  2000,  MAR DE FONDO, 1998 , Valencia, Spain;  Plug In Gallery,1997 Winnipeg, Canada. @Electric Eve 1996,   commissioned by the Southeast Museum of Photography  was shown in "Women and the Art of Multimedia," at the National Museum of Women in the Arts, Washington, DC (1997).

Her work has been reviewed in The New York Times, Art in America, ARTBYTE, Flash Art, Springerin, El Pais,Sputnik, Der Spiegel,Tema Celeste, Art Press among others .She has been the recipient of many awards and grants such as; the National Endowment for the Arts,New York;  Project Grant  Institute for Studies in the Arts; The  College of Fine Arts, ASU, Tempe, Arizona, 1998; most recently the International Artists Residency OMI, 2000 , New York;  the MECAD Research Grant, 2000, Barcelona, Spain and The Banff Center for the Arts, 2001, Banff, Canada;  

As a teacher and lectures, Jenny Marketou leads workshops,think tanks, lectures and short courses for many art institutions and art centers.She has taught at Cooper Union School of Art and The New School  for Social Research in New York.
