http://sysx.apana.org.au/~gashgirl/arc/index.html

Dollspace (1997, 2001)

You enter deep doll space zero.

doll yoko swims up from crater mud pond of dead girls. She places her moss damp lips on yours and kisses you tenderly. Her pale hands perform gentle inquisitions upon your fleshform as she haunts your imagination, bruising your skin with her words.

I fled to Japan, to a rice paper hut high in the mountains of Kyoto. The hut overlooked a pond whose Japanese name means 'bottomless mud'. I discovered that this was the site where for centuries women had drowned their infant daughters. It was a pond of dead girls and I became haunted. I moved higher into the mountains, where streams ran under the roads and fields. At night all you could hear was running water, the tears perhaps of all the women who had been forced to kill all those little girls.

doll yoko, ghost girl, claws her way out of ragged gash skin.

She slithers through the slit, translucent grey tentacles teasing her momma's lips.

Eyes soft watering holes, ghost ponds, sad salty holes.

Sour plum lips. Octopus in her cunt, giving doll formidable grasp on human nature.

doll yoko says: all women are ghosts and should rightly be feared

doll is the infinite spaciousness of zero

haunted by deep doll hunger and the impossible.

A swarm of hungry ghosts waits on the bridge of dreams . . .

whispering: all history is pornography

whispering: trust no-one

whispering: to kill is to forget

whispering: a ghost never tires

whispering: a doll is forever

'dollspace' is a web environment, a deep labyrinth for doll, her ghostgirls and riverboys to haunt. There is no beginning and no end in the online environment. dollspace refolds three sites that contain dark hypertext fiction, strategic links to contemporary sites of political action by third/fourth world ghosts, and a zone for sightings of spectral disturbances. The work embodies new forms of authorship, comprised not only of words and images by doll yoko, but also enriched by emails and commentary and memories of others, along with digi-gifts of sound files, animations and graphics. Each contribution opens up new lines of flight, new hauntings, new voices . . . drawing the user ever deeper into the pond of dead girls, breathing underwater.

'soundtrack for an empty dollspace' was created by Michael Grimm.

Perishable sounds for the web, delineated by dollspace and small time large space.

Twenty one-minute dollspace sound characters + 7 minute prequel: Russian Dollspace (wild talents), dissipated. Decayed. Not in progress, nor throwaway, no time, post/pre mirror states.

Ricardo Dominguez has also created a complementary site, 'hauntologies', exploring the living dead who are excluded from the world of Capital and Power, the indigenous Mexicans known as the Zapatistas.

dollspace / smear of roses has been presented live in the contexts of lectures and festival events in the UK, Russia, Rome, Zurich, New York, Boston, and Australia. dollspace was featured at FOLDBACK in 1998 Adelaide Festival of Arts, and exhibited at trAce International Online Writing Community (UK), Aleph (Spain), and The Critical Eye (USA).
